The keypad is usually located near the main entrance to your home, and acts as the interface between you and your home alarm system.
Set the system to page you in an emergency... turn your system on or off with a touch of your wireless keyfob... or press the status button to get a report that shows your system is working properly.
In an emergency, panic buttons located on your touchpad can immediately summon the proper authorities... sirens sound and help is on the way.
Door and window sensors are nearly invisible, extremely reliable, and a must-have for securing entry points to your home and nearly anything else that opens and closes. Windows, doors, cabinets, closets, art cases, and gun safes are all commonly found uses for these devices.
Typically a two-part device, one part of the contact is a switch installed in the door or window jamb or frame. The other is installed in the door or window itself and contains a magnet that signals an alarm when it moves "out-of-contact" with the switch.
Your alarm system activates in the event of unauthorized entry to these areas.
Motion detectors can protect large open areas with a single device. The most commonly used motion sensor is a Passive Infrared Detector (PIR). This sensor detects the body heat and movement of an intruder, which in turn sends a signal to the control panel, activates sirens and communicates an alarm with ADT. Since PIRs are motion sensors, they are designed to be used when no one is at home, or when the family will not be moving through the protected areas.
Special motion sensors can also be installed that can even distinguish between your pets and burglars.
Breaking glass can often be the sound of a burglar trying to enter your home. Glass break detectors come in two basic types:
1. An acoustic sensor that is mounted on a wall or ceiling and "listens" for the sound frequency of shattering glass in a window or door, and can provide protection within an area up to 35 feet from the sensor; and
2. A shock sensor that is mounted on the window and "feels" the shock of breaking glass.
Sirens, an essential piece of every Home Security System, are more than an audible alerting device. They are also a very effective deterrent to crime. Once a siren is activated, intruders know it's only a matter of minutes until the police arrive.
To ensure that your family is alerted to an emergency, an inside siren is part of every system. Many homeowners also choose to include outside sirens to alert neighbors to an emergency. Outside sirens are even available with tamper guards, which cause the siren to sound if someone tries to remove it from its mount.

Police Arrest Home Invasion Suspects

The homeowner was in his bedroom with the lights on when he heard a loud noise at his back door, and shortly afterward, the men kicked in his bedroom door, according to the affidavit.(read more)

[July 1, 2009] When a 50-year old woman answered a knock at her door, San Antonio police said a man rushed in, tied her up and then ransacked the house. Police said the woman's 25-year old son came home just as the attack was taking place, struggled with the burglar, and was stabbed three times in the abdomen.(read more)
